LEWISBERRY, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's crew team won the all-points trophy at last weekend's Mid-Atlantic Championships. In addition, two Blue Jays, Wes Fredericks (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and Dante Ross earned All-Mid Atlantic Regional honors.
The Blue Jays won four of the five events at the championships to take home the trophy. The Varsity 8 crew took first with a time of 6:38.40. Crewing the boat were Barry Tong (Napa, CA/Vintage), Josiah Drewien (Hailey, ID/The Community School), Chris Vaglia (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon), Fredericks, Chris Viemeister (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), Teddy Drivas (New York, NY/Stuyvesant), Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land), Lukasz Bugaj (Kalamazoo, MI/Portage Northern) and Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial).
The Varisty 4 also took first with a time of 7:26.4. Rachel Raskob (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), Drewien, Bugaj, Vaglia and Fredericks crewed the Varsity 4 boat. Bobby Mattina (Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill) and Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic) took first in the Pair event with a time of 8:51.0. And the Novice 4 took first with a time of 7:57.0. Crewing the Novice 4 boat were Danielle Fair (Doylestown, PA/Hun School of Princeton), Ross, Daniel Ingram (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), Joshua Crist (Akron, OH/Nordonia) and Alexander Baish (Ijamsville, MD/Georgetown Prep).
The Novice 8 crew took second to Washington College with a time of 7:21.41. Crewing that boat were
Tristan Levey (Detroit, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood), Ross,
Jose De La Guerra (West Palm Beach, FL/Cardinal Newman),
Nick Kreston (Houston, TX/Singapore American School), Ingram, Crist, Baish,
Stephen Hou (Fort Mill, SC/Fort Mill) and
Larkin Luo (Elk Grove, CA/Franklin). In addition, Ingram was awarded the team's Most Improved Novice award.
Hopkins concludes the season at the Dad Vail Regatta on May 11-12 in Philadelphia, PA.
