YORK COUNTY, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's crew team captured bronze at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships on Saturday, earning 12 points. In addition, senior Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) and sophomore Will Cooper (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) earned MARC All-Region honors.
The Varsity Eight crew took fourth in the final with a time of 7:27.77. Junior Stephen Hou (Fort Mill, SC/Fort Mill) served as the coxswain while Reese sat stroke. Cooper was in the seven seat with senior Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic) was in the six seat and junior Joshua Crist (Akron, OH/Nordonia) in five seat. Junior Adam Ammar (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) sat in the four seat, sophomore Max Thorsbakken (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) was in the three seat, junior Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) in the two seat and sophomore Marcus Webb (Moultrie, GA/Maclay School (FL)) in the bow.
In the Varsity Four race, the "A" crew took second with a time of 7:10.48. Sophomore Alisha Tuteja (Arlington, VA/Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology) served as the coxswain, while Reese sat in the four seat. Crist was in the three seat with Ward in the two and Cooper in the bow. The "B" crew took fourth with a time of 7:26.13. Hou served as the coxswain with Ammar in the four seat, Webb in the three, Ranieri in the two and sophomore Eric Chen (Macungie, PA/Shanghai American School) in the bow.
And the Novice Four crew took fourth in a time of 7:49.50. Freshman Kevin Chen (Orlando, FL/Winter Park) served as the coxswain, with freshman Frank Yao (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) sitting stroke. Freshman Bob Huang (San Diego, CA/Mt Carmel) sat in the three seat, while freshman Cliff Jenkins-Houk (Lutherville, MD/Towson) sat in the two seat and sophomore Tyler Smith (Seattle, WA/West Seattle) was in the bow.
Tuteja, Reese, Crist and Ammar also earned MARC All-Academic honors for posting a cumulative GPA of atleast a 3.50.
