Varsity Eight Places Third at Occoquan Sprints

LORTON, VA - The Johns Hopkins men's crew team competed at the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday after the Caspersen Cup was cancelled on Saturday due to poor conditions. Highlighting the day was the third place finish for the men's varsity eight. The Blue Jays will be in action next Saturday as they host the JHU Invitational. In the men's varsity eight, the Blue Jays finished second in their heat with a time of 5:58.10 and then took third in the final with a time of 5:59.10. In the boat were junior Madison West (New Britain, CT/Hotchkiss), freshman Andrew Faulkner (Anchorage, AK/Phillips Academy Andover (MA)), seniors Chris Vaglia (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) and Josiah Drewien (Hailey, ID/The Community School), sophomore Joshua Crist (Akron, OH/Nordonia), freshmen George Reynolds (Washington, CT/Kent School) and William Bagdorf (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme), junior Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) and freshman Will Cooper (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice). In the men's novice four, Hopkins took second in its heat with a time of 7:15.40. In the boat were freshmen Alisha Tuteja, Steve Cardinali (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock Township) and Max Thorsbakken (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial), sophomore Adam Ammar (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) and freshman Eric Chen (Macungie, PA/Shanghai American School).
