SUMMERTON, SC - The Johns Hopkins men's crew team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Saturday with the Cooper River Sprints in Summerton, SC. Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 28 as the Blue Jays host the annual Caspersen Cup in Baltimore.

The Blue Jays opened the day with a second place finish in the Varsity Eight with a time of 7:06. Sophomore Alisha Tuteja (Arlington, VA/Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology) served as the coxswain, while senior Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) sat stroke. Sophomore Will Cooper (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) was in the seven seat, senior Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic) was in the six seat with sophomore Marcus Webb (Moultrie, GA/Maclay School (FL)) in the five seat. Junior Adam Ammar (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) sat in the four seat, sophomore Max Thorsbakken (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) sat in the three seat, junior Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) sat in the two seat and sophomore Eric Chen (Macungie, PA/Shanghai American School) was in the bow.

Hopkins then took second and fourth in the Varsity Four. The "A" Boat finished in 7:59 while the "B" boat clocked in at 8:18. Junior Stephen Hou (Fort Mill, SC/Fort Mill) served as the coxswain in the "A" boat, while Reese sat stroke. Cooper sat in the three seat, with Ranieri in the second seat and Webb in the bow. Tuteja served as the coxswain in the "B" boat while Ward sat stroke. Thorsbakken sat in the three seat, with Ammar in the two seat and Chen in the bow.

 

 

The Blue Jays closed out the day with a second place finish in the Novice Four. Junior Cathy Nguyen (South Amboy, NJ/Piscataway) served as the coxswain while freshman Frank Yao (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) sat stroke. Freshman Bob Huang (San Diego, CA/Mt Carmel) sat in the three seat, while freshman Cliff Jenkins-Houk (Lutherville, MD/Towson) sat in the two seat and sophomore Tyler Smith (Seattle, WA/West Seattle) was in the bow.
