THE WEEK IN REVIEW... Johns Hopkins opened its Centennial Conference title defense last week with a disappointing mid-week loss at Franklin & Marshall. The Blue Jays rebounded on Saturday with a win over the visiting Swarthmore Garnet to even the conference record at 1-1. Cold shooting and lack of rebounding was the story of the first half against the Diplomats as Hopkins trailed 35-12 at half time. The Blue Jays came out firing in the second however, outscoring the Diplomats by 14, but it wasn't enough to overcome their first half woes. Junior Phil Beggans led the way with 14 second half points. Hopkins got back in the win column Saturday, defeating Swathmore 73-59 for the team's seventh straight over the Garnet. Shooting 47.5 percent from the floor, while turning the ball over just 10 times were the keys for the Blue Jays win. Though Hopkins was outrebounded by Swarthmore, the Jays also forced 18 Garnet turnovers. Senior Doug Polster punched up a game-high 20 points in the win, with 13 of those coming in the second half. Sophomore Andrew Farber-Miller punched up nine points while grabbing a career-high seven rebounds. THE WEEK AHEAD... Johns Hopkins wraps up the 2007 portion of its schedule with a pair of road games. The Blue Jays travel to the Gettsyburg Bullets on Wednesday before visiting the Dickinson Red Devils on Saturday. Gettysburg leads the all-time series with Hopkins, 41-25, though the Blue Jays won the last meeting. The Blue Jays are just 6-7 at Gettysburg since the formation of the Centennial Conference in 1993-94. Hopkins has fared much better against Dickinson and leads the series 35-23. The Blue Jays have won the last five meetings and 10 of the last 11. In fact, Hopkins is 11-3 in Carlisle since the 1993-94 season. I'M HONORED... Senior guard Doug Polster was named to both the Centennial Conference and PrestoSports/Provident Pride of Maryland Honor Roll on Monday. In the Blue Jays comeback attempt at Franklin & Marshall, Polster scored all 11 of his points in the second half, while shooting 50% from the floor. On Saturday, Polster shot 70% from the floor for a game-high 20 points in the win over Swarthmore. He was 3-of-5 from downtown and scored 13 of his points in the second half. COACH NELSON...
