O'Connell Earns Second Team All-Centennial Conference Honors

LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins senior guard Pat O'Connell (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) has earned Second Team All-Centennial Conference honors as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. In addition, sophomores Danny Gergen (Austin, TX/Anderson) and Tim McCarty (Warrington, PA/Germantown Academy) have been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. O'Connell capped his standout career in a Blue Jay uniform with his first career All-Centennial Conference honor. A co-captain this season, he led Hopkins with 93 assists, 58 steals, while ranking second with 10.1 points and third with 4.2 rebounds per game. He posted career-highs in assists, steals, points and minutes per game (33.5) in his final season. O'Connell's 93 assists rank seventh in school single-season history, while his 58 steals are tied for third most in program history. He finished his career with 846 points, 394 rebounds, 236 assists and 171 steals. O'Connell is jus the third player in program history to play more than 3,000 minutes and is the first with more than 800 points, 200 assists and 150 steals. In addition, O'Connell closed out his career ranked in the top 15 in school history in 11 categories, and ranked in the top 10 in seven of those, including steals (2nd / 171). Gergen and McCarty have been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for their role on the court and in the classroom. Gergen, a 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team selection, boasts a 3.85 cumulative GPA as a public health major. McCarty is majoring in economics with a minor in entrepreneurship and management and boasts a cumulative GPA of 4.00. To be named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must play in at least 50% of the team games and have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher.
The Blue Jay men's basketball program now boasts 58 all-time all-conference selections, including 31 All-Centennial honorees. In addition, 19 players have been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll since 2001-02. |
