THE WEEK IN REVIEW... Johns Hopkins returned to action in 2008 with a pair of games at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic presented by Best Western and hosted by York College. JHU ran into undefeated Elizabethtown in its opening match, falling 74-67. The Blue Jays then rebounded with a 71-62 win over the Eastern Eagles to claim third place.

Against Elizabethtown, senior Doug Polster and sophomore Pat O'Connell combined for 41 points in the loss. O'Connell's 22 points were a career-high and earned him a spot on the all-tournament team.

The following afternoon, it was sophomore forward Andrew Farber-Miller and junior guard Collin Kamm who led the way. Farber-Miller paced the offense with 15 points, while going a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe. Kamm meanwhile broke a school single-game record with nine steals, including six in the first half. In fact, he chipped in 10 points, falling just one steal shy of a double-double.

THE WEEK AHEAD... Johns Hopkins returns to Centennial Conference action as the Blue Jays once again hit the road. JHU will travel to Ursinus on Wednesday for an 8:00 pm tilt. The Blue Jays swept the season series last year and leads the all-time series 41-34.

On Saturday the Haverford Fords visit Goldfarb Gym for a rematch of the 2007 Centennial Conference title game. Johns Hopkins is 54-36 all-time against Haverford.

300 AND COUNTING... Johns Hopkins has some outstanding three-point shooters in its history. In fact, JHU has hit atleast one three-pointer in 302 consecutive games. A streak that dates back to February 17, 1996. It is the ninth longest active streak in NCAA Division III.

T.J. Valerio (`07) holds the individual record for consecutive games with a three-pointer. He hit a trey in 35 straight games, a stretch from January 8, 2005 to February 1, 2006.

I'M HONORED... Sophomore forward Andrew Farber-Miller was named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll on Monday. He had a career game on Saturday in the Blue Jays win over Eastern Eagles. He paced the JHU offense with 15 points while grabbing seven boards. Farber-Miller also had three steals and dished an assist.

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP.. After seeing limited playing time in their rookie seasons, Adam Baumgartner and Andrew Farber-Miller are having solid sophomore campaigns.

Farber-Miller led the Blue Jays with 15 points, including 11 from the free throw line, in their 71-62 win over Eastern at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. His 15 points tied a career-high as did his seven rebounds. Farber-Miller has started seven straight games and is averaging 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He's shooting 51.5 percent from the floor and 794. percent from the charity stripe.

Baumgartner has played in all 11 games and started four. He is averaging 4.6 points and 4.5 boards per game.He's also blocked four shots and grabed seven steals.

PICKPOCKET... Junior guard Collin Kamm broke a school record in Saturday's win against Eastern in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. He had nine steals, including six in the first half, breaking the program single-game record of seven - held by both Dave Wilson (02-05-1986) and Bill Zahn (11-27-1989). Kamm's nine steals are also tied for the third most in Centennial Conference history.

As a team, Johns Hopkins had 15 steals - the most in a game in exactly seven years. The Blue Jays last had 15 steals in a game on January 5, 2001 in a 67-50 win over New York University.

COACH NELSON... Head coach Bill Nelson, now in his 22nd season with the Blue Jays, is the winningest coach in program history. He posts a 358-204 (.638) record entering this week's action. Nelson ranks second in Centennial Conference history in conference wins (140), conference tournament wins (9) and NCAA Tournament wins (5).

MOVING ON UP... Senior guard Doug Polster is moving up the ranks in the Hopkins record book for career three-point field goals made and attempted. He enters this week with 258 attempts and ranking ninth all-time. Polster has nailed 100 treys and now ranks 10th all-time. He entered the season ranked third in JHU history in three-point percentage with a 41.9 percent clip.

Also making a move in the Hopkins record book is senior forward Kevin Roach. He enters this week's action with 37 career blocks, ranking 17th in program history.

AROUND THE CENTENNIAL... Senior guard Doug Polster leads the Centennial in three-point field goals (2.73), while ranking fifth in free throw percentage (.833) and seventh in scoring (14.8). Sophomore forward Andrew Farber-Miller is eighth in field goal percentage (.515) and free throw percentage (.794). Sophomore guard Pat O'Connell leads the conference in three point percentage (.538).

Junior guard Scott Weisenfeld is fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.09), eighth in assists (2.78) and ninth in steals (1.67). Senior forward Kevin Roach ranks seventh in blocks (1.18) and defensive rebounds (5.09) and 10th in rebounding (6.5), while junior guard Collin Kamm leads the conference in assist-turnover ratio (1.33) and ranks second in steals (2.36).

As a team, Johns Hopkins leads the Centennial in free throw percentage (.725) and steals (9.27). The Blue Jays also rank second in three-point field goal defense (.306), third in three-point percentage (.368) and turnover margin (+1.82) and fourth in scoring defense (65.6) and blocks (3.27).

CHARITY STRIPE... The Blue Jays have seven players who are shooting better than 65.0 percent from the charity stripe this season. In fact, four Blue Jays are shooting better than 74.0 percent. Senior Doug Polster leads the team, connecting on 83.3 percent of his shots from the free throw line.

Polster hit 15 consecutive free throws from December 5, 2007 to January 4, 2008. Sophomore forward Andrew Farber-Miller has hit 13 consecutive, dating back to the Gettysburg game on December 5.

IT'S A NEW SEASON... Johns Hopkins is in its 83rd season of basketball and posts an all-time record of 788-895-1 (.468). The Blue Jays also post a Centennial Conference record of 140-66 (.680). Hopkins ranks second behind Franklin & Marshall (153) for most conference wins.

COACHES' PICK... The Blue Jays were picked to finish fourth in the Centennial Conference in the coaches' preseason poll. Hopkins received 111 points and was the only team in the top-five to not receive a first place vote. Ursinus is the conference preseason favorite, earning seven first place votes and 137 points.
