Box Score

GETTYSBURG, PA - Senior guard Doug Polster (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) and sophomore forward Andrew Farber-Miller (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfied) combined for 37 points but it was not enough in an 82-77 loss at Gettysburg Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. Both teams shot over 60 percent from downtown in the game.

Hopkins opened the game on a 6-0 run with buckets from senior forward Kevin Roach (Derwood, MD/Colonel Zadok Magruder) and Farber-Miller. Andrew Powers hit a lay-up to get the Bullets on the board and ignite an 8-1 run as Gettysburg took its first lead at 8-7 with 15:22 to play. Hopkins came right back with a lay-up from Farber-Miller and held the lead for the next six minutes, answering every Gettysburg bucket.

Trailing by four, Kevin Kennedy hit a trey for the Bullets to make it a 22-21 game with 10:04 to play. Sophomore Adam Baumgartner (Reston, VA/Bishop O'Connell) then tipped in a missed three from junior Phil Beggans (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township) and the lead was three. Kennedy answered with another three to knot the score and then a jumper by Corey Dorsey gave the home team the lead.

On the ensuing possession junior guard Scott Weisenfeld (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) drove the lane and hit a lay-up to tie the game at 26-26 with 8:03 to play in the half. That would be the last tie of the game as Matt Presby hit from downtown to give the Bullets a lead they would not relinquish. Gettysburg pushed its lead to as much as 11 points but a lay-up from junior Collin Kamm (Avon, NJ/Saint Rose) and a trey from sophomore Pat O'Connell (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and it was a six-point game at the half.

Gettysburg pushed its lead to double-digits five times in the second half, leading by as much as 15 points at one point. Each time, Hopkins battled back with some clutch three-point shooting. Trailing by 12 with 1:51 to play, Polster hit a three but it was answered with a dunk from Powers on the inbounds play. Hopkins would hit three treys in the closing minute of the game, but Gettysburg would connect on four of six free throw attempts to seal the win.

Polster punched up 20+ points for the second consecutive game, finishing with a game-high 22 points, including six threes. Farber-Miller hit for a career-high 15 points, while Baumgartner led the Blue Jays with a game-high nine rebounds. Dorsey led the Bullets with 20 points, while Dan Capkin (16 points) and Powers (15 points) also hit in double-figures.

Hopkins outrebounded (37-30) Gettysburg and had fewer turnovers (10-11), but the Bullets shot 56.0 percent from the floor compared to 43.9 percent for the Blue Jays.

Hopkins closes out the 2007 portion of its schedule on Saturday at Dickinson. The Centennial Conference match-up is set for a 4:00 pm tip. Live stats are available at: http://alpha.dickinson.edu/departments/sports/livestats/XLIVE.HTM.
