Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins senior co-captain Doug Polster (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) punched up a career-high 29 points but it was not enough as visiting Ursinus remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference action with an 82-66 win Saturday. The game honored former Blue Jay basketball players Glen Wall '84 and Matt O'Mahony '84 who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Polster was named the JHU MVP, while Ursinus guard Nick Shattuck was named the Bears' MVP.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that saw the lead change hands nine times with six ties. After a pair of back-to-back baskets by the Bears gave the visitors a 24-22 lead with 4:28 to play in the half, Polster hit a three to give Hopkins back the lead. He then hit the front end of a pair of free throws after an Ursinus turnover and the Blue Jays led by two. A lay-up by Shattuck tied it up again before sophomore Adam Baumgartner (Reston, VA/Bishop O'Connell) hit one of two free throws and junior guard Collin Kamm (Avon, NJ/Saint Rose) made it a 29-26 game with 18 seconds to play. That proved to be just enough time as Ursinus pushed the ball up court and Remy Cousart nailed a three with six ticks on the clock to tie it up.

Coming out of the half, John Noonan hit a jumper to give the Bears a 31-29 lead just 12 seconds in. A Pat O'Connell (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) lay-up knotted the score, but Shattuck answered with a trey to put the Bears on top again. Hopkins retook the lead when Shattuck fouled Polster on a three-point attempt. Polster stepped to the line and hit all three shots. Once again, the Bears answered with a three for the 10th tie of the game. Shattuck then hit a bucket in the paint to give Ursinus a lead it would not relinquish. The Bears sealed the win from the free throw line, knocking down 12 straight shots in the final 2:44 of the game.

Polster led all scorers with a career-high 29 points, including four three-pointers. He was the only Blue Jay in double figures. Shattuck led four Bears in double figures with 27 points. Ursinus shot 52.6 percent from the floor, including 60.7 percent in the second half, and won the rebound battle (41-26).

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, February 6 when Franklin & Marshall visits Goldfarb Gym. The Centennial Conference match-up is set to tip at 7:00 pm.
