Loeffler Named Johns Hopkins Men's Basketball Coach

Loeffler Has Been An Assistant at Loyola Maryland For Last Four Years

G.G. Smith enters his second season on the Blue Jay bench. He came to Hopkins from Armstrong Atlantic State University, where he spent two seasons an assistant. Prior to that, Smith spent the 2002-03 season at Tennessee Tech University. He served on the men's basketball staff at the University of Kentucky under his father, former head coach Tubby Smith, for two seasons. He received his master's degree in 2002.

Smith is a 1999 graduate of the University of Georgia, with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. A four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs, Smith earned All-SEC Third Team honors as a junior. He was also named to the All-Tournament team at the 1998 NIT.

Smith and his wife, Lorie, reside in Baltimore. Lorie Smith is a pediatrician at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition to his coaching duties with the Blue Jays, Smith serves as a substitute for Baltimore County Public Schools.
