June 1, 2004

Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins senior rightfielder Rob Morrison (Malibu, CA/Loyola) was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Baseball First Team on Tuesday.

Senior second baseman Tim Casale (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade) was selected to the third team.

Morrison, who was named to the All-Centennial Conference and All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Teams, led the Blue Jays with a .477 batting average, seventh in Division III this year and the fifth highest single-season average in Hopkins history. Morrison also led the team with 63 hits, and recorded a hit in 32 of the 35 games in which he had an at-bat this year. He went 4-for-5 with two runs scored in the win over Wheaton on March 20, and had seven three-hit games and 14 two-games games this season. In the May 1 win over F&M in the conference tournament Morrison went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a runs scored, and the following day he was 3-for-6 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. He batted .409 at the NCAA Regional with two home runs and five RBIs to earn all-regional honors.

Morrison, who was named to the academic all-district men's soccer first team in the fall, is the first Blue Jay to earn Academic All-America Baseball First Team honors since John Crist made the first team during the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

Casale, the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and an All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team selection, batted .405 with team-highs of 44 runs scored and five triples while ranking second with 60 hits. Additionally he hit 12 doubles, knocked in 25 runs and stole 27 bases in 30 attempts while posting 19 multiple-hit games this season. Casale went 6-for-12 with five runs scored in the league tournament and recorded five three-hit games from the leadoff spot this year. He recorded a hit in 34 of the 40 games in which he had an at bat this season, and currently is ranked 27th in Division III in stolen bases per game.

The Blue Jays went 40-4 this season, setting the school record for wins in a season and advancing to the final day of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional.
