BALTIMORE, MD – Senior catcher Ryan Orgielewicz was named to the ABCA All-America Second Team, it was announced Thursday night. The senior was named the ABCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Position Player of the Year earlier in the week and adds to his All-America honors from D3Baseball.
In total, Hopkins has had 21 capture ABCA All-America honors, with 15 earning first or second team recognition. Orgielewicz is the first Blue Jay since 2010 to be named to an All-America team by the ABCA.
Orgielewicz excelled in his senior season and has been rewarded with All-America, All-Region and All-Centennial Conference honors. The 2017 ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Position Player of the Year led the Centennial Conference in hits (73), home runs (13), RBI (56), total bases (132) and slugging percentage. Orgielewicz served as both the catcher and designated hitter for the Blue Jay, making 30 starts behind the plate and 14 more at DH. The Larchmont, NY, native led the team with a .403 batting average, including 13 home runs, 16 doubles and two triples. Orgielewicz’s 13 homers rank third in the country and are tied for the fifth-most in a single season in Hopkins history. Batting primarily in the cleanup spot, Orgielewicz recorded 56 RBI, ninth-most in the country and the ninth-most in a single season in JHU history. Orgielewicz led Hopkins with 22 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games in 2017. The catcher was the lone Blue Jay on the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team, as he hit 9-for-16 with three home runs and 11 RBI in NCAA Regional play.
