BALTIMORE - Sophomore designated hitter Rob Pietroforte and junior catcher Rob Sanzillo represent Johns Hopkins on the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) 2006 Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team, announced on Monday afternoon.
For Pietroforte, a second team selection, the ABCA recognition marks his third post-season honor. His post-2006 hardware includes a First Team All-Centennial Conference slot as well as a CoSIDA District II Second Team All-Academic selection. The sophomore from Brooklyn, N.Y. posted a .424 batting average, the fourth-best single-season clip among Hopkins hitters during the decade.
Sanzillo, a third-team pick, hit .380 with three homers and 29 RBI and a .496 on-base mark, fourth-best in the conference. The junior from Katonah, N.Y. also swiped 15 bases on 17 tries, second-best on the team. Defensively, Sanzillo caught 10 baserunners stealing and posted a .996 fielding percentage, sixth in the league.
Johns Hopkins closed the 2006 baseball season with a 28-9-2 record and a 15-3-1 Centennial Conference record.
