BOYERTOWN, PA - Johns Hopkins juniors Russ Berger (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) and Doug Hitchner (Haverford, PA/Episcopal Academy) and sophomore Paul Winterling (Glenelg, MD/McDonogh School) were named to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Baseball All-Tournament Team as the Blue Jays posted a 2-2 record last weekend.

Berger won his only start in an elimination game against top seed Rowan on the third day of the tournament. He went the distance for the third time this season and allowed just one run on seven hits to improve to 8-0 on the year. Berger struck out one batter and did not allow a walk for the seventh time in 11 appearances as he lowered his ERA to 3.04.

Winterling led the JHU offense as he batted .353 (6-for-17) with four runs and six RBIs in four games. In the opening win against Alvernia, he was 2-for-5 with two runs, a two-run home run and three runs batted in. Winterling then went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in Hopkins' next game versus DeSales and drove in one run with a double in JHU's win over Rowan. He then belted his team-leading 12th home run of the season in the Blue Jays' final game against DeSales.

Hitchner had an excellent tournament as he batted .555 (5-for-9) with five runs and one RBI. He was 2-for-2 with a career-high four runs as Hopkins topped Alvernia in its opening game. Hitchner then went 2-for-4 and drove in a crucial run in a 3-1 win over Rowan and was 1-for-3 with a run scored against DeSales in JHU's final game.

The Blue Jays finished the season with a 34-7 record after posting a 2-2 record in the tournament. Hopkins reached 30 wins for the third straight season and improved to 409-151-1 (.729) since the start of the 1990 season.
