Bolyard, Biner, Emr Land All-Region Honors

EWING, NJ - Three members of the Johns Hopkins baseball team have been named to the 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Mid.-Atlantic All-Region Team it was announced today by Dean Glus, head coach at the College of New Jersey and chair of the regional selection committee. Junior Lee Bolyard (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) earned First Team All-Region and now goes on the ballot for All-America honors. Senior Ryan Biner (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) grabbed second team honors and Todd Emr (Westwood, NJ/Saddle River Day), who competed this season as a graduate student, garnered third team accolades.
Bolyard, who was named to the team as a designated hitter, previously earned First Team All-Centennial honors. He hit .381 with 61 hits, 54 runs scored, 15 doubles and 11 home runs. His 113 total bases ranked second on the team and he finished second on the squad in slugging percentage (.706). He was also 11-for-11 on stolen bases and earned a spot on the NCAA South Region All-Tournament team after leading the Blue Jays to the regional championship game. Bolyard hit .414 at the regional with 12 hits, eight runs scored and six RBIs in JHU's six games in the tournament.
Biner was also a First Team All-Centennial selection this season as he hit .384 with 61 hits, 39 runs scored, 13 doubles and 11 home runs. He paced the team with 61 RBIs and had a .991 fielding percentage at first base for the Blue Jays. His 61 RBIs were 10 more than any other player on the team and his 11 home runs tied Bolyard for second on the team.
Emr polished off one of the finest careers in school history with his selection to the third team. The 2009 Centennial Conference Player of the Year and a two-time First Team All-Centennial selection, Emr led the Blue Jays in batting average (.457), hits (79), runs scored (55), doubles (23), total bases (118) and on-base percentage (.518). He struck out just four times in 199 plate appearances and capped his career with a stunning display in the NCAA South Regional. There, he hit .538 with 14 hits in 26 at bats and added six doubles, nine RBIs and eight runs scored in the Blue Jays' run to the title game. For his efforts, he was named to the NCAA South Region All-Tournament Team.
Johns Hopkins concluded the 2009 season with a 28-16 record, the program's 10th Centennial Conference Championship and a third straight trip to the regional final. The Blue Jays won the 2008 NCAA South Region Championship en route to a national runner-up finish at the College World Series.
