Hopkins Jumps Five Spots to Eighth in Latest Poll
April 22, 2002
BALTIMORE - The Johns Hopkins baseball team moved up five spots to eighth in the latest 2002 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's NCAA Division III poll. The ranking is the highest for JHU since the team was ranked fourth in the country for three straight polls during the 1998 season. The Blue Jays, 26-5 overall, received 180 points to tie Salisbury (Md.) for the eighth spot and are the lone Centennial Conference school in the top-30.
The Blue Jays, who are also ranked first in the Mid-Atlantic region, went 5-1 in the last two weeks. JHU defeated Villa Julie, 14-5, before suffering its first conference loss to Dickinson, 7-3. The Blue Jays rebounded to win their last four games with victories over Dickinson (20-2), Swarthmore (3-0, and 6-4), and Gettysburg (17-0). Hopkins has won 19 of its last 21 games and leads the Centennial with a 12-1 record.
The Blue Jays return to action Tuesday as JHU hosts Ursinus for a Centennial Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
