Results: The Blue Jays currently sport a 16-4 record after winning their first four Centennial Conference games last week. JHU posted back-to-back shutouts against Western Maryland, winning 5-0 at home and 6-0 on the road, then swept Haverford in a doubleheader on Saturday winning 6-4 and 12-1.

Up Next: JHU opens the week at Washington College on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. before returning home for a non-conference game versus Catholic on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The Blue Jays then host Washington College on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Franklin & Marshall comes to town on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.

The Coach: Bob Babb is in his 23rd season as head coach of the Blue Jay baseball. Babb, who is the all-time winningest men's baseball coach in JHU history, sports a 596-235-8 (.715) record. With four more wins, Babb can become the 14th active Division III head coach with 600 wins. Under Babb's guidance, Hopkins has captured 10 Middle Atlantic Conference Southeast League titles, seven UAA titles, four Centennial Conference Championships, and made nine appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Team & Player Notes

* Consistent Winning: JHU has recorded a winning record for 23 straight seasons, including every year under coach Babb. Last season the Blue Jays won 33 games, marking the seventh time Hopkins has won at least 30 games. JHU has also won at least 25 games for 10 consecutive years. Below is a list of the seasons in which the Blue Jays have won at least 30 games:

Year, Record, Postseason
2001, 33-14 (.702), NCAA's
1998, 36-4 (.900), NCAA's
1994, 34-6 (.850), NCAA's
1992, 30-8 (.789), NCAA's
1989, 34-7 (.829), NCAA's
1986, 33-5-1 (.859), NCAA's
1985, 31-12 (.721), -

* Strength in Numbers: Through 20 games, JHU has displayed its depth as 23 players have seen action in the field and 12 pitchers have taken the mound. Twenty-one players have tallied at least one hit, while 22 players have scored a run and 21 players have at least one RBI. Seventeen players have started at least 5 games and 17 players have 21 or more at-bats. Eight pitchers have started a game and all 12 pitchers have see action in three or more games.

* Power Surge: With eight home runs in the doubleheader versus Haverford, the Blue Jays now have 33 for the year to surpass last season's total of 31. Fifteen players have hit a home run, while 10 players have two or more homers. Sophomore Bryan Eberle and freshman Dave Montegari joined the list of Blue Jays to homer as they each hit their first career home runs in JHU's 12-1 win over Haverford. If the team keeps the pace of 1.65 home runs per game through the team's 40-game schedule, Hopkins would finish the regular season with a school-record 66 home runs. The 1998 team set the record with 45 home runs in 40 games. Last year, the team combined for 31 home runs in 47 games.

* Scoring in Bunches: The Blue Jays have scored 201 runs in the team's first 20 games for an average of 10.05 runs per game. Hopkins has scored 10 or more runs in nine games and scored four or more runs in an inning 12 times. JHU scored a season-high 27 runs against Robert Morris, the most since a 30-0 win over Dickinson in 1987, including 14 in the sixth inning. Last season, the Blue Jays averaged 7.02 runs per game for a total of 330 runs.

* Sineath Approaches School Records: Senior second baseman Karl Sineath leads Hopkins with 22 runs scored and 12 stolen bases to move closer to the school career marks in both categories. Sineath has 90 career stolen bases to rank second at JHU, just five steals behind Tom Finegan (95). He also ranks third at Hopkins with 148 career runs, needing 16 to pass John Christ (163) for the all-time lead.

*Rosenberg Reaches 200-K Mark: Senior Yani Rosenberg has totaled 24 strikeouts in 17 innings this season to pass the 200-strikeout mark and move into a tie for second at JHU with 212 for his career. Rosenberg, the third pitcher in school history to record over 200 strikeouts, needs 30 k's to become JHU's all-time leader. He struck out 10 batters in seven innings and allowed just two hits as Hopkins defeated Western Maryland 5-0 last week. Rosenberg is also third at Hopkins in career winning percentage (.875, 21-3) and has won his last 10 decisions.

* Duo Solid Behind the Plate: Senior Tom Prevas and sophomore Doug Hitchner have combined to give Hopkins solid offensive and defensive play throughout the year. Hitchner is hitting .414 (12-for-29) and Prevas is batting at a .393 (11-for-28) clip. Hitchner has scored seven runs, hit two home runs, and is fifth on the team with 12 runs batted in. Prevas has added three runs and has a career-high nine RBIs. The two have a combined 141 chances in the field without committing an error.

* Quick Notes:

- The Blue Jays are hitting .364 (98-for-269) with runners in scoring position and .625 (10-for-16) with the bases loaded.
- After walking 46 batters in the first 13 games, an average of 3.54 per game, Blue Jay pitchers have combined to allow just 11 walks in the last seven games (1.57 per game).
- In 164 innings, the pitching staff currently has more strikeouts (154) than hits allowed (139). If that trend continues, it would mark the first time in school history that the staff tallied more strikeouts than hits allowed. The 1999 team came close as it struck out 239 batters and allowed 254 hits.
- Since starting the year 1-for-8, senior John Krivonak has hit .500 (18-for-36) in his last 12 games.
- Sophomore Craig Cetta has a team-high nine-game hitting streak and has hit .433 (13-for-30) during that time with 10 runs and nine RBIs.
- Over his last two starts, junior Jeremy Brown has allowed just two runs and eight hits in 12 innings while striking out 17 batters and walking one.
- Junior Jay Cieri is hitting .388 (7-for-18) in his last six games with seven runs and six RBIs. Cieri also leads the team with 14 walks and a .547 on-base percentage.
