Fort Myers, FL - The Johns Hopkins baseball team remained unbeaten during the 2003 season with a 4-0 victory over Transylvania University this afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. With the victory, the Blue Jays extend their winning streak to four games.
Junior Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) picked up his first victory of the season after pitching six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five. Sophomore Jason Hochfelder (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Hackley) followed with two-and-a-third innings, allowing five hits and striking out two. Freshmen Jason Thayer (Finksburg, MD/Westminster) earned his first career save by striking out the final two batters with the bases loaded to secure to victory.
The Blue Jays offensive attack was led by sophomore Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson), who went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, sophomore Brian Harris (Longwood, FL/Lake Brantley), who had a RBI single and a double, and sophomore Michael Spiciarich (Syosset, NY/Chaminade), who had an RBI triple.
The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday afternoon against William Penn at 12 noon.
