Hopkins Picked First in Preseason Centennial Baseball Poll

LANCASTER, PA - The Johns Hopkins baseball team was picked to finish first in the Centennial Conference as selected by the conference's 10 head coaches. The Blue Jays received eight first-place votes and 79 points overall to outdistance Franklin & Marshall, which was second in the voting with 69 points overall and one first-place vote.
Ursinus was third in the poll with 66 total points and the remaining first-place vote, while Muhlenberg was fourth with 55 points. Gettysburg and McDaniel tied for the fifth spot with 40 overall points.
Hopkins won its second straight and fifth overall Centennial Championship last season. The Blue Jays have went 35-9 overall and 16-2 in conference play and have won four of the past six conference titles. JHU also boasts an all-time record of 125-36 (.776) in Centennial games, which is tops in the league.
The Blue Jays open the 2003 season on Saturday, March 8 against Albion College in Ft. Myers, Florida at 4:00 p.m. Hopkins is scheduled to play nine games in Florida from March 8 to March 15.
