BOYERTOWN, PA - Senior catcher Rob Sanzillo hit a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth to lead the number three seed Johns Hopkins baseball team past the six seed Elizabethtown College, 5-4 on Wednesday night in NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Action. The Blue Jays (36-9) won their sixth straight contest and will now face TCNJ tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.

Elizabethtown had taken an early lead in this game, setting the stage for Sanzillo's late game heroics. In the first inning, Hopkins starter Joe Zaccaria allowed the first two runners to reach on singles. A groundout from Dean Whetham brought home the first run of the game and after a walk; Jared Morris singled home the second run of the inning. Elizabethtown led 2-0 after the first inning of play.

Elizabethtown increased its lead to 3-0 with a single run in the top of the fifth inning.

Hopkins finally got things going in the bottom of the fifth as junior third baseman Nate Adelman had a one-out single through the right side. After Adelman stole second, Elizabethtown got the second out of the inning. Junior shortstop Jonas Fester then knocked a double down the left field line to score Adelman. Sanzillo singled home Fester with the second run of the inning.

Zaccaria got the first out of the sixth before the skies opened up and sent both teams off the field. That was the beginning of a five hour and 37 minute rain delay. When the team returned to the field, junior Pat Steffee took the mound for Hopkins and retired Elizabethtown in order to complete the sixth. Elizabethtown got another run in the top of the seventh as Jared Auman doubled home Ryan White.

Down 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, Adelman led off with a single up the middle. After Elizabethtown got the first out of the inning, Fester singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Sanzillo then stepped to the plate and lifted his eighth home run of the year to right field for a walk off win.

Steffee picked up his fourth win of the year in relief as he went 3.2 innings allowing one run on seven hits while striking out one and walking one. Zaccaria went 5.1 for Hopkins and allowed three runs. Sam Heaps took the loss for Elizabethtown after throwing 0.1 innings and allowing three runs on three hits.

Sanzillo went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored. He had a triple and the home run on the day. With the three RBIs on the home run, Sanzillo now has 100 career hits, 100 career runs scored and 100 career RBIs, the 13th player at Hopkins to achieve the mark. Fester went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while senior second baseman Ian Christie pushed his hit streak to 10 games with a pair of hits. Adelman was the other member of Hopkins with multiple hits as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Hopkins will return to action tomorrow, May 17th at 4:30 p.m. versus the College of New Jersey. TCNJ defeated Wilkes in Wednesday's action.
