Box Score

LANCASTER, PA - Junior right hander Ryan Kuhlman threw a complete game and junior shortstop Jonas Fester collected four hits to lead the #16 Johns Hopkins baseball team past Franklin & Marshall, 7-6 on Saturday morning. The Blue Jays (31-9) will now face the loser of the Gettysburg/Ursinus game at 4 p.m. in Centennial Conference Tournament action. Hopkins avenges two losses earlier this season to the Diplomats with the win. The Diplomats are eliminated from the Centennial Conference Tournament with the loss.

The Blue Jays reach Diplomat starter Dan Tischler for a run in the first inning as Fester reached on a fielding error and scored on junior center fielder Rob Pietroforte's double. Hopkins added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning as senior second baseman Ian Christie had a two-out single. After junior DH Tony Margve got hit by a pitch, junior left fielder Jon Solomon drew a walk to load the bases. Fester then punched a single through the right side to score Christie and Margve.

Franklin & Marshall knotted the game at 3-3 with three runs in the third. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Rich Gallugi as he belted a two run home run to left field. Kuhlman was exquisite after that as only a two-out walk in the sixth kept him from retiring the Diplomats in order in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Blue Jays added two runs in the fifth inning as Christie's single through the left side scoring senior right fielder Brett Izzo and junior first baseman Matt Benchener. That made the score, 6-3 after five innings of play. The Blue Jays would add another run in the seventh courtesy of Izzo's RBI single to score Solomon.

Franklin & Marshall reached Kuhlman for three runs in the top of the ninth but the junior was able to shut the door and secure the 7-6 victory for the Blue Jays.

Kuhlman improves to 8-1 after throwing nine innings, allowing nine hits, six runs and striking out seven. Tischler took the loss for the Diplomats after going 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs.

Fester was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored on the day. Pietroforte went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Christie was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Benchener and Izzo were also 2-for-4 on the day.

Hopkins returns to action on 4 p.m. to face the loser of the Gettysburg/Ursinus game.
