BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Johns Hopkins a 5-4 win over Gettysburg in the final Centennial Conference game for both teams Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Jays improved to 29-5 overall and finished with a 16-2 mark in the conference, while Gettysburg concluded its season with a 16-17-2 overall record and a 9-8-1 mark in league play. Hopkins has earned the top seed in the Centennial Conference Playoffs and will host games on Saturday and Sunday.

With Gettysburg holding on to a 4-3 lead, sophomore Paul Winterling (Glenelg, MD/McDonogh School) opened the bottom of the eight with a double to the gap in left center. Durgala followed with his ninth home run of the season, a powerful shot over the fence in left field to provide the winning margin.

Junior Sven Stafford (Evanston, IL/Evanston) worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his third save of the year, while junior Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) struck out two in one scoreless inning to pick up his fifth win of the season.

The Bullets opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the fourth inning off Blue Jay starter Russ Berger (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills), who had his consecutive scoreless inning streak stopped at 22 innings. JHU answered in the bottom of the frame as junior Craig Cetta (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) followed a walk by Durgala with a booming two-run home run to center field, his fifth of the season.

The Bullets responded with two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage, and both teams scored a single run in the sixth to make the score 4-3 with three innings remaining.

Berger went five innings for Hopkins and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five. Matt Donohue fell to 4-3 on the year as he surrendered Durgala's home run in the eighth. Dan Armstrong started for the Bullets and gave up three runs on four hits in six innings.

Winterling was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two doubles, while Durgala was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Cetta was 2-for-4 with a run and two driven in. Mike Luteran collected three hits in four at-bats for Gettysburg, while Jeremy Steele and Henry Mullen were both 1-for-4 with a run batted in.

The Blue Jays return to action Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Centennial Conference Playoffs as Hopkins looks to win its third consecutive conference title.
