Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Jason Setty (Mt. Pleasant, TX/Mt. Pleasant) improved to 6-0 and senior Mike DePalma (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead Johns Hopkins to an easy 8-2 victory over visiting Neumann College this afternoon in non-conference baseball action. The Blue Jays improved to 31-6 on the year, while Neumann fell to 4-33 overall.

Hopkins jumped out to an early lead with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Tim Casale (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade) led off with a double and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by DePalma. Sophomore Brian Morley (Tappan, NY/Don Bosco Prep) then singled and scored on a single from sophomore Sven Stafford (Evanston, IL/Evanston). Morley finished the day 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

After freshman Paul Winterling (Glenelg, MD/McDonogh School) walked, Stafford scored on a single by freshman Paul Long (Oklahoma City, OK/Heritage Hall) and Winterling scored on a single from freshman Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 advantage. Winterling was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks on the day.

Neumann scored a single run in the top of the fourth on a wild pitch, but JHU responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as DePalma drove in Casale with a single and scored one batter later on a single from Morley. Casale then scored his third run of the game in the sixth on a balk and Winterling drove home DePalma with a single in the same frame for an 8-1 Hopkins lead. Neumann capped the scoring with a single run in the eighth inning.

Setty allowed one run on four hits while striking out five in five innings to improve to 18-2 for his career. He lowered his ERA to 3.44 and is second on the team with six wins. Sophomores Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep), George Merrell (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia), and Stafford and senior Mike Overstreet (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) combined to allow just on unearned run and four hits in four innings of relief. Shaun Donahue suffered the loss for Neumann and fell to 2-5 on the year.

Senior Karl Sineath (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) broke the school record for stolen bases as he recorded his 18th stolen base of the season and 96th career steal as a pinch runner in the sixth inning. Sineath, who is 96-for-106 on stolen base attempts for his career, broke the mark of 95 set by Tom Finegan from 1985-88.

The Blue Jays, who have won 19 of their last 21 games, return to action Tuesday as JHU travels to face Montclair State at 7:00 p.m.
