Dickinson Pulls Ahead In Ninth To Down Blue Jays, 5-4

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins baseball team fell behind in the ninth inning to fall to Dickinson, 5-4 in Centennial Conference play in Baltimore, MD on Monday. The Blue Jays move to 13-11 (5-4 Centennial) on the season. The Red Devils (8-18, 4-8 CC) scored three runs in the ninth inning to pull ahead of the Blue Jays. Hopkins responded with just one run in the ninth as Dickinson swept the season series, winning each game 5-4. The Blue Jays led 3-2 heading into the ninth inning. The Red Devils' Ben Sciambi was hit by a Greg Harbeck pitch to open the inning and Matt Wiegand entered the game in relief of Harbeck. Peter Bilali doubled to score Dickinson's third run before an error in right field sent two runners home to take a 5-3 lead over Hopkins. Hopkins rebounded with a run in the ninth after Dave Kahn scored on a wild pitch, but fell short to Dickinson. With bases load in the fourth, Dave Fioretti struck out Ben Sciambi to end the innings. Fioretti would stop the run again in the fifth, retiring Mike Schuster at the plate to deny the advancement from Bart Marchant at third. Lee Bolyard led off the sixth with a home run to give Hopkins the 2-1 advantage. The Blue Jays had scored their first run in the third when Dave Kahn scored after Todd Emr sent a sacrifice fly to center field. Fioretti went 7.2 innings for the Blue Jays, striking out a career-high 12 batters. Kahn finished 2-for-5 with one double to lead the Blue Jays. Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, hosting the Shoremen from Washington College. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
