CARLISLE, PA - In a game delayed by rain and shortened because of darkness, the Johns Hopkins baseball team suffered its first Centennial Conference loss this afternoon at the hands of Dickinson College, 7-3. The Blue Jays had their 10-game winning streak snapped and fell to 22-5 overall and 8-1 in the conference. The Red Devils improved to 8-13-1 overall and 4-5 in CC play.

Dickinson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Tre Dwinell homered to right center. The Red Devils then took control of the game in the third with five runs on three hits and two errors. Bryan MacPhail drove in one with a single and Bob Hess added a three-run double with two outs. MacPhail struck again in the fourth with a triple that brought home Geoff Neese, who had doubled one batter earlier.

The Blue Jays got on the board with three runs in the fifth inning as senior Ben Taylor (Pawling, NY/Trinity-Pawling) drove home Tom Prevas (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) and Jay Cieri (Pine Brooke, NJ/Montville) with a single and sophomore Craig Cetta (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) plated junior Joe Urban (Nanticoke, PA/Bishop Hoban) with a sacrifice fly. JHU then scored seven runs in the top of the eighth to take a 10-7 lead, but the game was stopped due to darkness before the inning could be completed.

Sophomore Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) suffered the loss for Hopkins, falling to 3-2 on the year. He allowed four earned runs on five hits in 2.2 innings. Senior Neal Lynch (Pennington, NJ/Notre Dame) finished the game for the Blue Jays and held Dickinson to one run on four hits in 4.1 innings. Tom Pratt went the distance for the Red Devils and held JHU to three runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking five.

The Blue Jays will look to rebound as they face the Red Devils again on Friday in Baltimore at 3:30 p.m.
