WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Bryan Eberle (Frederick, MD/Urbana) hit a grand slam and freshman Corey Gleason (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) added a three-run home run to lead the Johns Hopkins baseball team past Catholic, 13-2, this afternoon in non-conference action.

Junior Adam Josephart (West Nyack, NY/Clarktown South) pitched six strong innings to earn his second win of the season as the Blue Jays improved to 14-2 overall with their fifth straight win. Catholic fell to 14-7 overall with the loss.

After a scoreless first inning, Hopkins struck for five runs in the second as sophomore Eric Nigro (Randolph, NJ/Taft Prep) drove in sophomore Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) with a single, and Eberle drilled a grand slam, his second career home run, down the right field line three batters later.

Freshman Gary Rosenberg (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) gave JHU a 6-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single, and Gleason added the first home run of his career, a three-run shot down the left field line for a 9-0 lead.

Catholic got on the board in the bottom of the third on a home run by Daniel Conway, but Hopkins answered with three runs in the top of the fifth to take a commanding 12-1 advantage. Rosenberg and Eberle scored on a two-out triple to the gap in right-center field by junior Tim Casale (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade), who would later score on a single by junior Rob Morrison (Malibu, CA/Loyola).

Josephart allowed just one run on three hits while striking out a career-high six batters. He improved to 2-0 on the year and lowered his ERA to 4.63. Adam Weiss fell to 3-3 as he took the loss for Catholic after allowing 12 runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings.

The Blue Jays return to Centennial Conference play on Friday as Hopkins travels to face Dickinson College at 3:00 p.m.
