Hopkins scored four runs in the first inning as junior Joe Urban (Nanticoke, PA/Bishop Hoban) and freshman Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) each tallied an RBI single and sophomore Brian Morley (Tappan, NY/Don Bosco Prep) hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. The Blue Jays added two runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Freshman Paul Winterling (Glenelg, MD/McDonogh School) drove in sophomore Bryan Eberle (Frederick, MD/Urbana) with a sacrifice fly and Urban scored on a wild pitch after doubling earlier in the inning.

Catholic came back and scored three runs in the top of the third to cut the margin to 6-3. JHU then scored a single run in the fourth as senior Ben Taylor (Pawling, NY/Trinity-Pawling) scored on a Mike Durgala double for a 7-3 advantage. The Cardinals came back once again in the sixth inning with two runs to cut the lead to 7-5. The Blue Jays added to their lead with a run in the sixth and a run in the eighth, and Catholic managed just one run in its final trip to the plate.
