BALTIMORE, MD - St. Mary's scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie on its way to an 11-7 win over Johns Hopkins in non-conference baseball action this afternoon. The Seahawks improved to 8-14-1, while Hopkins had its five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 12-4.

JHU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as senior Karl Sineath (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) scored on a wild pitch. St. Mary's responded in the top of the next frame with three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 lead. The Blue Jays came back in the bottom of the inning as sophomore Mike Stankus (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) belted his third home run of the year, a solo shot to left, and sophomore Brian Morley (Tappan, NY/Don Bosco Prep) scored on an error.
 

 

With the score tied 4-4 in the top of the seventh, St. Mary's scored six runs on two hits and five Blue Jay errors to take a 10-4 lead. Sophomore Craig Cetta (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) brought the Blue Jays to within 10-6 in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double, but Hopkins could not make up the deficit.

Matt Bailey earned the win for the Seahawks with 2.2 relief innings, while senior Mike Overstreet (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) suffered the setback for JHU. Sineath finished the day 2-for-5 with one run, one RBI, and one stolen base, while sophomore Rob Morrison (Malibu, CA/Loyola) added two runs. Tracey Vallandingham went 2-for-4 with three runs and a home run to lead St. Mary's, while Chris Segal was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

The Blue Jays return to action Tuesday as JHU opens Centennial Conference action at home against Western Maryland at 3:00 p.m.
