Box Score

Fort Myers, FL - Johns Hopkins senior pitcher Jeremy Brown (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the Blue Jays' 9-0 win over No. 19 Lakeland as JHU won twice Saturday in its first action of the 2003 season. Hopkins defeated Albion, 13-4, earlier in the day in its season-opener.

Brown struck out 12 and walked just one batter to record the sixth no-hitter in school history and the first since three Blue Jays combined on a no-hitter in a 9-0 seven-inning win over Franklin & Marshall on April 7, 2001.

Sophomore outfielder Eric Nigro (Randolph, NJ/Taft Prep) led the Hopkins attack by going 1-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in, while junior infielder Carl Ippolito (Ewing, NJ/Pennington School) went 1-for-2 with a single and two runs batted in. Sophomore infielder Paul Long (Oklahoma City, OK/Heritage Hall) finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

In the opener, junior outfielder Craig Cetta (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) led the Blue Jays by going 3-for-3 with three singles and three runs scored, while junior first baseman Sven Stafford (Evanston, IL/Evanston) went 2-for-4 with a grand slam. Senior outfielder Jay Cieri (Pine Brook, NJ/Montville) finished 1-for-1 with a solo home run, four runs scored, and three walks.

Junior Russ Berger (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) started on the mound for Hopkins and picked up the win by allowing three earned runs on four hits in 4.2 innings. Berger also struck out three, while junior Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) and freshman Jason Thayer (Finksburg, MD/Westminster) each pitched in relief.
