The Basics
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 19, Gwynedd-Mercy - 5
• Records: JHU (2-1) • Gwynedd-Mercy (1-1)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team hit seven home runs, three by Alex Darwiche as the Blue Jays defeated Gwynedd-Mercy 19-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Four straight Blue Jay batters reached base with two outs in the top of the first. Mike Smith reached on an error and scored on a Chris Festa home run to make the score 2-0. Darwiche followed with a double and was knocked home by a Chris DeGiacomo single to give JHU a 3-0 lead after one.
• Darwiche took the first pitch of the bottom of the third over the right field wall to put Hopkins up 4-0 and JHU would take a 5-0 lead in the inning as DeGiacomo stole third and scored on a throwing error.
Preston Betz was perfect through three before Jason Mulvey took him deep to left to put the Griffins on the board. Gwynedd-Mercy got another run on a Josh Lopez single to center. With runners on second and third, Betz was able to get the next two batters to fly out to center to escape the inning allowing just the one run.
• Darwiche hit his second home run of the afternoon with two on in the fourth as he took the Brian Wildrick pitch over the leftfield wall. DeGiacomo followed with a home run of his own to right-center as the Blue Jays took a 6-2 lead.
• The Griffins got a run back in the top of the fifth on a single to left by Nick Mulvey. Betz had runners on first and second with one out in the frame but was able to induce a double play to get out of the jam.
Nathan Davis hit his first career home run in the fifth to put Hopkins in front 8-3 and that was followed by a home run to left from Smith. With a runner on Darwiche launched his third home run of the game as JHU went up 12-3.
• A five-run sixth put the game out of reach as the Blue Jays went up 19-3. Bradley Parsons, Bradley Martin, Colby Wilson, Frank Clara, Tim Kutcher and Robby Faris all recorded RBI in the frame.
• Two unearned runs for the Griffins in the eighth made the score 19-5, but that was the last of the scoring as Hopkins came out with the 19-5 win.
