Phil Newman begins his third season as part of the Johns Hopkins baseball staff. Newman will serve as the varsity infield and hitting coach and also work with catchers.
Newman came to Hopkins from Centennial Conference rival Dickinson College. He played two years of his college ball at Dickinson and helped lead the Red Devils to the first Centennial Conference playoff appearance in school history in 2004 with a 10-7-1 Centennial Conference mark. Newman spent the first two seasons of his college career at Mt. St. Mary's. Newman, a 2004 graduate of Dickinson College, earned a degree in international business and management with a minor in Spanish.
Newman has recently developed Professional Baseball Training, a youth baseball program targeted at skill enhancement and fundamentals. He has partnered with a Johns Hopkins alumni duo, Matt Righter and Paul Winterling, both of whom played professionally.
Newman and his wife, Lori, reside in Washington, D.C.
