BALTIMORE, MD -- Blue Jays Unlimited (BJU), the fundraising arm of the Johns Hopkins University Department of Athletics, continued its recent success by breaking annual fundraising records for giving and participation in a single year. The BJU Club raised $1,402,448.98 from 2,644 members, surpassing the previous annual giving record of $1,172,217.58 from 2,102 members in 2015-2016.
“Every year we set the bar higher, and I am so proud of what our team accomplished in 2016-2017. To see over a $230,000 increase in giving, while adding 542 BJU Club members, is truly remarkable. Our “all hands on deck mentality” is paying off, and we can’t wait to turn the page to 2017-2018,” noted Grant Kelly, Director of Athletic Development at Johns Hopkins. “We can’t thank our alumni, parents and friends enough for their continued support.”
The Blue Jays Unlimited team includes Kelly, Associate Director Meredith Rosenblatt, and Assistant Director Steph Laurence. Together, the trio has served Johns Hopkins Athletics for more than 18 years, and have continued their fantastic run together this year. The BJU team will be adding a new member this upcoming year, and will be a four-person team for the first time in program history.
“Since my first weeks on campus I have been extremely impressed with the philanthropic support our programs receive from an extremely diverse cross section of Hopkins faithful – alumni, parents, fans, faculty and staff, student-athletes and friends. As we continue to set even higher goals for our programs it’s reassuring to know we can count on our BJU team and our passionate supporters to provide the resources we need to offer the best student-athlete experience possible., noted Alanna Shanahan, Director of Athletics & Recreation”
