BALTIMORE, Md. -- Josh MacArthur, most recently the Assistant Manager for Athletic Facilities at Dartmouth College for seven years, has been named an Associate Director of Athletics at Johns Hopkins University, it was announced today by Tom Calder, Director of Athletics at Johns Hopkins. MacArthur takes over for Faith Shearer, who resigned in June for a similar position at Elon College.

In his new position at Johns Hopkins, MacArthur will oversee all compliance issues for Hopkins' two NCAA Division I sports (men's and women's lacrosse) and 24 NCAA Division III programs. In addition, he will have direct supervision for all part-time head coaches and serve as the Department of Athletics' liaison with various departments on campus, including admissions, financial aid and academic advising. In addition, MacArthur will also assist in all departmental and budget planning and scheduling of athletic contests, while also representing Johns Hopkins at various conference and national meetings.

At Dartmouth, MacArthur worked closely with 35 intercollegiate athletic programs and 16 club sports, while also overseeing 26 athletic facilities. He coordinated event operations for various Ivy League, ECAC and NCAA Championship events and handled contest scheduling for 17 of Dartmouth's 35 varsity athletic programs.

Prior to his time at Dartmouth, MacArthur spent one year as the Interim Academic and Compliance Coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to monitoring the recruitment process for 30 intercollegiate athletic programs at Penn, he also served as the department liaison with the Ivy League and the NCAA on all compliance issues and coordinated the initial-eligibility process for all student-athletes.

A 1992 graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York, MacArthur holds a bachelor's degree in history. He was a member of the men's soccer team for two years while at Hobart and later served as an assistant women's soccer coach at William Smith and Penn. He earned his master's degree in sports management from the University of Richmond in 1995 and graduated from the Sport Management Institute in 2001.
