Rick Romyn Named Associate Director of Athletics
Romyn will serve as the day-to-day point of contact for fiscal and administrative operations within the Johns Hopkins Department of Athletics and Recreation. He will oversee more than 100 individual budgets within the department and will work closely with the Senior Executive Director of Finance and Administration within Homewood Student Affairs to ensure budget and business operations are properly aligned within the overall division budget.
In addition, Romyn will serve as the sport administrator for the Johns Hopkins men’s and women’s swimming and water polo teams and will have direct oversight of the department’s assistant business manager and office manager.
Romyn brings more than 10 years of experience in athletics administration to Johns Hopkins as he served at Drexel University from 2005-16. There, he progressively worked his way up and spent his final four years as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Administration. In that role, he managed the department’s overall budget, led full and part-time staff in coordinating all business and team services and implemented the department’s onboarding and mentorship program for new employees.
In addition to his time as the Assistant Director of Athletics at Drexel, he previously provided administrative support as the Coordinator of Athletic Operations, Manager of Team Services, Manager of Business Operations and Director of Business Operations over a span of more than seven years before being promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics in in 2012.
Most recently, Romyn served as the Director of Athletics and Facilities in the Brandywine Heights School District.
Romyn was also a key member of the 2013, 2015 and 2016 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship local organizing committee as Drexel served as the official host school for those championships. Romyn oversaw the hundreds of volunteers at those events and was also the event director of several Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships hosted by Drexel. In addition, he served as a site manager at the prestigious Penn Relays from 2005-17.
Romyn graduated from Cabrini College in 2001, earned a master’s degree from West Chester and is currently pursuing an MBA at Drexel.
