The Blue Jays Unlimited Award

The Blue Jays Unlimited Award was established in 2000 by the BJU Board of Advisors. The award was created to recognize the Johns Hopkins varsity athlete who most exemplifies the spirit of Blue Jays Unlimited by demonstrating team spirit and leadership, promoting team unity and morale, and enhancing the athletic experience of his or her teammates.

The first Blue Jays Unlimited Award went to Jenny Silverman '00 (Columbia, MD). Silverman, a double major in Psychology and Sociology, was the captain of the field hockey team that had the best season in JHU history. The Blue Jays posted a record of 17-3 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Silverman was a First Team All-Centennial choice on defense and helped the Blue Jays tally a school-record 13 shutouts. More importantly, she was the anchor of that defense and an inspirational leader on and off the field as the heart and soul of the team. She now attends law school at the University of Chicago.

Silverman beat out several other outstanding nominees for the inaugural BJU Award. Athletes were encouraged to nominate a teammate for the new Blue Jays Unlimited Award. Essentially it is an award for Hopkins athletes from Hopkins athletes. Silverman was nominated by her teammates on the field hockey team.
