The Team: The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins water polo team went 1-3 on the week against Collegiate Water Polo Association South

The Team: The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins water polo team went 1-3 on the week against Collegiate Water Polo Association South Division foes. Hopkins boasts a 3-9 overall record, and is 1-3 in league play. The Blue Jays travel to face GWU on Wednesday and then host the Division III Invitational over the weekend. On Saturday, JHU is in action against Grove City and Washington & Jefferson. On Sunday, Hopkins takes on Penn State Behrend and Villanova.

Sept. 22 vs. George Washington: All-American Zaman Mirzadeh (Sr., Davis, CA/Davis) led all scorers with six goals as water polo defeated Southern Division opponent George Washington, 13-9.

Ryan Ford (So., Almaden, CA/Leland) and Geoffrey McCann (Fr., Menlo Park, CA/St. Francis) each posted two goals. Daniel Herr (Fr., Encino, CA/Harvard-Westlake), Paul Ramaley (So., Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), and Mark McCoy (Sr., Danville, CA/San Ramon) each recorded one goal for the Blue Jays.

Goalkeepers Craig Smith (Fr., San Clemente, CA/San Clemente) and Mark McGory (Jr., Santa Barbara, CA/Dos Pueblos) both registered five saves.

Sept. 23 vs. Princeton: Johns Hopkins’ water polo team fell to CWPA Southern Division foe Princeton at Bucknell by a score of 17-4. The Tigers, ranked 16th in Division I, led the entire game. Zaman Mirzadeh, Mark McCoy, Anuj Mittah, and Mark McGory tallied goals for Hopkins.

Sept. 23 at Bucknell: JHU took on the Bison in the night cap, falling to BU 14-11. Hopkins held a 4-3 lead at the end of the first period. But, Bucknell outscored the Blue Jays in the final three stanzas. Zaman Mirzadeh led JHU with five tallies, followed by Mark McCoy’s three goals. Ryan Ford, Paul Ramaley, and Geoffrey McCann each posted one goal.

Sept. 24 vs. Navy: The Division I Midshipmen, ranked No. 15, handed Hopkins a 13-9 loss. Navy led the entire contest after taking a 5-2 first period lead. Geoffrey McCann had five goals while Zaman Mirzadeh posted four goals.
