JHU 19th in NACDA Directors' Cup Standings

April 18, 2003

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Bolstered by the presence of four teams in the NCAA Tournament during the winter season, Johns Hopkins University has moved up to 19th place in the most recent NCAA III NACDA Directors' Cup Standings (formerly the Sears Directors' Cup). Hopkins has finished in the top 30 in the final standings in each of the last six years and is the only team from the Centennial Conference in the top 60 of the most recent standings. Through the winter NCAA Championships, JHU has accumulated 282 points.

The men's and women's swimming teams led the way for the Blue Jays in the winter as the men placed second at the NCAA Championships to pick up 90 points, while the women finished ninth and added 69 points. Other NCAA participants for Johns Hopkins in the winter included women's basketball and fencing, while the men's and women's soccer teams added points in the fall.

Johns Hopkins placed 49th in the inaugural NCAA III Sears Directors' Cup Standings in 1996, but moved to a program-best 16th place in 1997 and has added 24th (1998), 25th (1999) 21st (2000), 30th (2001) and 22nd (2002) place showings in each of the last five years. Hopkins is the only Centennial Conference school which has placed in the top 25 in any year since the inception of the award.
