Johns Hopkins Launches Redesigned Version of HopkinsSports.com
By Ernie Larossa
Associate AD/Director of Athletic Communications
BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins Department of Athletics debuted a redesigned version of the official web site of Blue Jay athletics - www.HopkinsSports.com - today. The site was last redesigned in November 2015.
The latest design of HopkinsSports.com brings a much different look and feel than the most recent version of the site. The fully responsive design has been carefully crafted for an optimal fan experience on phones, tablets and desktop computers.
The Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff of Ernie Larossa (Director of Athletic Communications), Jill Guise (Assistant Director of Athletic Communications), Lauren Dellipoali (Athletic Communications Assistant) and Matt Lawrence (Digital Media Coordinator) worked closely with the design and editorial team at CBS Interactive on the redesign. Lina Vandor was the lead designer on the new site, while Katelyn Lockwood led the editorial development team at CBS. A working group of Johns Hopkins coaches and administrators provided feedback to the athletic communications staff throughout the process to ensure different perspectives of the user experience were being considered.
"We began the process of redesigning HopkinsSports.com in October with a target relaunch date just before the winter sports championships and the start of lacrosse season," Larossa noted. "While there is a certain look to many of the sites designed by CBS (or any web design company), we pushed throughout the process to provide a unique design and feel that we believe our fans will enjoy."
The addition of front-page and sport-specific social walls (#GoHop), completely redesigned and enhanced student-athlete biography pages, unique game and event recap templates and above-the-fold access to HopTV, Blue Jay All-Access and the official online store of Hopkins athletics are just a few of the newest features fans will see.
The site also launches just in time for the inaugural Blue Jay Auction Week, which will take place from March 5-12. More information on that unique opportunity for Johns Hopkins fans will be coming soon; the auction will include nearly 50 Johns Hopkins athletics-related items, including experiences, team apparel and equipment and more.
HopkinsSports.com provides Johns Hopkins fans a one-stop location for everything they need to know about Blue Jay athletics. The site averages approximately 400,000 page views per month.
